(Modern Version)

DISHONORABLE GENTLEMEN BE HITHER AND THITHER  ACT 1  PEASANT 1: PART 3 It is the year 1056 A.D. The people of Jeffery’s village saw ulcers, bumps, and rashes growing all over their skin. Snot melted in their nose, their brows burned hot and was covered in sweat, their vomit leaked down their clothes, and the shrinking pain inside of their heads kept them on the ground. The morning sun did not help with its roasting. Yet, the people of the village had been innocent, or so it seemed. They had done nothing to displease God. They had to find whoever led them to torment and send them to Him.

The peasants that had not been plagued drove themselves to find the culprit. Jeffery would be one of these lucky, or perhaps unlucky, folk who wasn’t hit by the pestilence. He had to leave his wife and children at home, unable to enter there until someone was found.

They had suspected it was one of the sick folks who had committed sin, for who else could it have been? It would make no sense for a healthy person to commit false acts. If they had done so, that is what would make them sick in the first place. That is, until the sheriff theorized that it was a warlock sacrificing the village to take favors from The Devil.

The untouched peasants followed the sheriff as he investigated around the perimeter of the village, and found a young man standing on a green hill. He stood next to a cauldron pushing out white smoke, a smoke that stank of vile sin. Wind pushed the smoke into the village, painting a road in the air for The Devil to follow.

The man wore round eyeglasses, a green tunic, and youthful expression. Yet, to his luck, the village was neither made of fools nor pacifists. He could not keep an innocent façade. They had seized the man and would bring him to justice.

“Another one is running away!” One villager yelled, pointing to someone in a heavy grey cloak, running from the cauldron. But when people took chase, he disappeared and was not seen again. (Original Version)

Peasants that had not been plagued were given the task of finding the culprit. Jeffery would be one of the lucky, or perhaps unlucky, folk not hit by the pestilence. He would have to leave his wife and children at home, unable to enter there until someone was found.

They had suspected it was one of the sick folks who had committed sin, for who else could it have been? It would make no sense for a healthy folk to commit false acts. If they had done so, that is what would make them sick in the first place. This was not until the sheriff pondered that it was a warlock sacrificing the village to take favors from The Devil.

A man in heavy grey cloak would be seen in the distance, running from the cauldron. But when people took chase, he disappeared and was not seen again.
